San Diego Women Motorcycle Riders

This was a celebration of San Diego woman motorcycle riders that occurred in an art gallery in the Logan Heights area of South San Diego.

Personally, over the last decade or so I think the number of women motorcycle riders has increased exponentially! San Diego California is the ideal setting for motorcycling. The scenery from the Pacific Ocean to the mountains and deserts all within an easy couple hour ride, make San Diego a motorcycle rider’s paradise!

It said now that women make up 12% of the US motorcycle owners. this figure is up approximately28% just in the last five years!

From a survey conducted by the Motorcycle Industry Council, they show that in 2012, about 27 million people in the US operated a motorcycle. approximately 6.7 million of these motorcycle riders were women!

So why are more women riding motorcycles now than ever before? Well, I personally believe it’s for the same factors that guys ride motorcycles:

The feeling of freedom!

Independence!

Adventure!

The feeling of community with all who appreciate  the motorcycle riding experience clinician

From another survey that I read, it was said that the top type of motorcycle favored by woman riders our cruisers, with scooters coming in second. In third in third  place, 10% of the women chose sport bikes. aanother interesting fact from the same article was that 49% of the women motorcycle riders surveyed, said they prefer to do their own motorcycle maintenance or have a friend or relative do this maintenance, rather than paying a motorcycle mechanic.

I think the entire motorcycling community is celebrating the increase in women motorcycle riders. When I first started motorcycle riding many years ago, it was the days of kickstarting your bike. If you had a big high compression engine even if it was tuned properly there were just some days that it took a lot out of mail riders when their bikes decided to act up and it took a a lot out of you and a little luck, to get the engine started.

Nowadays, I can’t remember seeing any bike that had a kick starter. I believe this ease in operating or shall I say starting your bike, really opens up the motorcycle riding experience to a more diverse community of writers.
