San Diego California motorcycle ride – hang gliding

by Oakley

San Diego California motorcycle ride to hang  gliding sites.

There is no doubt that I have a type ‘A’ personality . . . I started off with my first Harley when I was in my early 20’s and then started off and hang gliding by constructing my own glider. I’ve been into hang gliding for approximately 20 years and as far as adrenaline sports goes, I don’t think there’s anything that can compare.

This is the second of two videos of our ride up to Julian and then out of Julian heading toward two of San Diego’s most famous hang gliding sites. The first one off of the Sunrise Highway, is for East winds, it’s a 3000 foot vertical cliff take off over the desert.

My personal record for hang gliding has been 50 miles and 15,100 feet as my highest altitude reached. I retired from hang gliding about five years ago and went back to high-powered good looking choppers.

The San Diego motorcycles in this video are two Harleys, a Big Dog Chopper and my American Ironhorse Texas Chopper.

Actually, I started out motorcycling and then got into hang gliding for 20 years. Now that I’m back motorcycling, I can definitively say that hang gliding is actually much safer than motorcycling.

With everybody on their cell phones and texting when driving, I really think the majority of motorcycle accidents are now caused by inattentive car drivers. When hang gliding all the accidents are caused by the pilots misjudgments and inexperience.

Having done both. I can also say that there is nothing like the adrenaline rush when you’re going up at over 1000 ft./m in one of our standard desert thermals!
