American Ironhorse Motorcycle Ride
San Diego East County motorcycle ride, Mount Laguna, Sunrise Highway.
Eric’s bike featured in this video, is a 2004 American Iron horse Texas Chopper with the 111 in.³ S&S engine. This motorcycle was given to him by his dad who was the original owner of the bike. Eric rode this bike across country from Florida to San Diego California.
American iron horse produced a number of different motorcycle models, their top-of-the-line flagship model was the Texas Chopper. In my personal opinion the Texas chopper and the Big Dtheog K-9 model are two of the best factory built chopper motorcycles ever!
The two main features of the Texas Chopper were its outstanding classic chopper look while providing a very comfortable ride because of the incorporation of two under the frame mounted rear shocks. So, even though most people assume that this is a hard tail (no rear shock absorbers) the truth is that these two hidden shock absorbers provide a very comfortable ride.
The other main feature was that they incorporated the S&S the twin engines in all their bikes. The S&S engine is considered by most motorcycle enthusiast to be the best US-made the twin engine. The Texas Chopper came with three S&S engine size options, the most popular of which was the 111 in.³ engine. You also had your choice of upgrading to 117 in.³ or the huge 124 in.³ engine.
What I like about the Big Dog K-9 is the fact that it came standard with the S&S 117 engine rather than the standard S&S 111 engine that came standard on the American Ironhorse Texas Chopper. I’ve owned big dog K-9’s and Texas choppers with all three S&S engine sizes. Personally, between the 111, 117 and 124 in.³ engines, I like the one 117 in.³ the best. the S&S 124 in.³ V- twin engine, I felt was just too much power for in-town ridingfor these types of bikes.
