The 80th annual Daytona Beach motorcycle rally began in Florida on March 5th, 2021. This is a montage of clips from each day of the rally so far. Friday started off the rally with near perfect riding weather. We visit the Doghouse bar & grill on Saturday afternoon for their bikini contest and then it was off to Main Street. The American Ironhorse Texas Chopper and and the Big Dog K-9 motorcycle are my two favorite factory custom motorcycles. Personally, I don’t think there’s a better factory custom chopper than the Texas Chopper or the Big Dog K-9!
The Texas chopper was the flagship of the American Ironhorse line of custom motorcycles. I’ve owned a number of them, starting with the 2004 and ending with a 2006. As I said before the Texas chopper and the Big Dog K-9 are my favorite motorcycles! Currently I’m riding a 2017 Big Dog K-9 with 117 in.³ S&S engine.
Both the Texas Chopper and the Big Dog K-9 are head turner’s where ever they go. The Texas Chopper came with three engine choices, all S&S engines starting at 111, 117 and the 124 in.³. The Big Dog K-9 came with the S&S 117 inch engine and when they went back into business the K-9 was upgraded to the S&S 124 inch engine.
Both these beautiful choppers are over 9 feet long, and to me, are powerful, sleek, works of rolling art. The truth is, you can go out and buy a new Harley for probably somewhere in the $30,000 too low $40,000 range and it would still not generate the looks of a well-maintained Texas chopper or Big Dog K-9 if they are parked next to your brand-new bike!
Daytona Beach Bike Week, also called Daytona Bike Week, is a motorcycle event and rally held annually in Daytona Beach, Florida. Approximately 500,000 people make their way to the rally area for the 10-day event. The festivities include motorcycle racing, concerts, parties, and street festivals. The event is usually held on the first full week of March (including the Fri-Sat-Sun prior to) and contends with the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally as the most popular motorcycle rally in the United States. This video was taken Mid-January with the temperature at 76°. Cave Creek Arizona has a lot of bars and restaurants and is a very popular ride destination for the Phoenix Arizona area. Cave Creek Arizona has a very similar vibe to Julian California which is about 50 miles out of San Diego. They’re both old gold mining towns and very popular ride destinations. (more…)
This is a ride on my 2017 Big Dog k9 clone just about 10min. north of my new home in Peoria Arizona.
For now, I’d like to point out that the first thing I noticed writing around the Western part of the Phoenix Valley, was that the roads are very well maintained and also clean of roadside trash. Now I’m not talking just about the major freeways but also all the local community roads. (more…)
A chopper is a type of custom motorcycle which emerged in California in the late 1950s. The chopper is perhaps the most extreme of all custom styles, often using radically modified steering angles and lengthened forks for a stretched-out appearance. They can be built from an original motorcycle which is modified (“chopped”) or built from scratch. Some of the characteristic features of choppers are long front ends with extended forks often coupled with an increased rake angle, hardtail frames (frames without rear suspension), very tall “ape hanger” or very short “drag” handlebars, lengthened or stretched frames, and larger than stock front wheels. The “sissy bar”, a set of tubes that connect the rear fender with the frame, and which are often extended several feet high, is a signature feature on many choppers. (more…)
