CA Motorcycle Crash
Scary California motorcycle crash lane splitting. This California motorcycle rider was very lucky to escape death or serious injury.
I lane split during rush hour but only when other traffic is almost completely stationary. When its moving faster than 20 to 30 miles an hour ill take the lane again. Lane splitting can be dangerous and you should be very alert but being rear ended when last in the traffic jam is no fun either on a bike. And you dont have a small vehicle to stand in line like an idiot in a cage. Its meant to be used as a nimble vehicle and that means lane splitting and filtering. Luckily lane splitting is legal in California.

The guy who crashed had target fixation i think, looking at the truck but wanting to steer to the right to avoid the truck. Glad he was ok.
It is true that there are plenty of bikers who go too much faster than traffic, but there are also bikers who only split when traffic is moving at twenty or less and they don’t blast by. They usually are going maybe ten mph faster. I didn’y used to do it on my bike but now do because of the sensible argument for it, namely that it’s safer for the bike. Why? Because when a bike is in the middle of stop and go traffic, every time traffic stops, that bike is danger of being crushed in a simple rear ender. IE, sandwiched between the car behind and the car in front. At red traffic lights too, I try to go between the cars to the front so that I am not in danger of being rear ended by someone who is not paying attention due to the fact that they are on their cell phone etc. My doing that in no way infringes on traffic. When the light turns green, I am gone (after a quick look both ways to watch for someone in cross traffic running a red. No traffic has to wait for me to get out of the way. So it’s no skin off anyone’s teeth and is safer for the bikers who do it safely.
