Chopper Motorcycles
This is a little video retrospective of some of the chopper motorcycles that I’ve owned over the years.
I grew up on the East Coast and that’s where my passion for high-powered chopper motorcycles began. Actually my first motorcycle was an old 1950 something Harley-Davison with a suicide shift.

The only thing I really miss about those early motorcycles, was the kickstarter. I mean, sure it’s really convenient and easy just to push a button on your handlebar and have your engine kick over. You really had to have your bike tuned up, so you could start your engine in just one kick.
Today, out here in sunny San Diego California, my two favorite chopper motorcycles are the American Ironhorse Texas Chopper and the Big Dog Motorcycles K9.
I personally believe that these two factory made custom motorcycles epitomize the standard for modern chopper motorcycles.
The great recession in the US caused both of these manufacturers to go out of business. American Ironhorse went bankrupt in 2008, and Big Dog Motorcycles went out in 2011.
Just a couple of years ago, Big Dog Motorcycles went back into operation, and as of today, are still producing their highly desirable motorcycles. Naturally, Big Dog Motorcycles today, is nowhere near the size and production output that they were in their heyday.
Yes, today the most popular style of large motorcycles is the bagger. But there remains a hard-core group of chopper motorcycle riders.
For me personally, and I’m sure many others, there’s just something about the chopper look, (low, long, sleek, fast and powerful) that appeals to a select number of motorcycle riders, and probably always will!
Sure, you can go into your local motorcycle dealership, and purchase a forty-something thousand dollar Bagger and ride it right down to your favorite bar on Fifth Avenue in the Gaslamp District of San Diego the same day you purchased it.
Sure, there will be a number of people who stop to admire your new ride, but, if a well-maintained 13 year old Big Dog Motorcycle K-9 model, is parked next to yours, you’ll quickly realize that it’s not the cost of your motorcycle that creates public admiration, but the style, as the other people admiring the Big Dog bike will far outnumber the ones looking at and commenting about your new motorcycle purchase.
