Motorcycle Road Rage Incident

 Motorcycle Road Rage Incident

Hard to tell from the video, it appears the motorcyclist shows aggression toward the car by either throwing something or attempting to hit the car with his hand.

During the policed investigation of the motorcycle hit-and-run incident, both drivers were arrested, according to police; the Mustang driver on suspicion of second-degree assault and the motorcyclist for suspicion of harassment.

The motorcycle rider shouldn’t have approached the mustang in a threatening manner, don’t put yourself between a bullet and a target. Unfortunately, on bikes, you’re already at a MASSIVE safety disadvantage.

I ride and when I do, I ride extra defensively as to avoid such situations. It’s always better to not let your emotions affect your safety, especially since the risks are so bad for us riders.

Motorcycle safety

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2006, 13.10 cars out of 100,000 ended up in fatal crashes. The rate for motorcycles is 72.34 per 100,000 registered motorcycles. Motorcycles also have a higher fatality rate per unit of distance travelled when compared with automobiles. Per vehicle mile traveled, motorcyclists’ risk of a fatal crash is 35 times greater than a passenger car. In 2004, figures from the UK Department for Transport indicated that motorcycles have 16 times the rate of serious injuries compared to cars.

A national study by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATS) found that:

  • Motorcycle rider death rates increased among all rider age groups between 1998 and 2000
  • Motorcycle rider deaths were nearly 30 times more than drivers of other vehicles
  • Motorcycle riders aged below 40 are 36 times more likely to be killed than other vehicle operators of the same age.
  • Motorcycle riders aged 40 years and over are around 20 times more likely to be killed than other drivers of that same age.

So how do you combat this??? In the UK you can take a course called advanced Riding… some charge for this like IAM “Insitute of Advanced Motorist” BUT RoSPA “Royal society provention of Accidents” (RoADAR) Royal society Advanced Drivers & Riders. Is free of charge & only require you to pay for the fuel/Gas used while training. The level of training is of the highest level that a civilian can obtain once passed.
All emergency services use the same system and it works. Follow this and it will make you a safer rider. I am not saying it will stop you having an accident if the person driving a cage just wants you dead but it will help you ride safe…. check it out… even if you are not bothered try reading the publication/manual called Roadcraft. This is what they use as the training manual and will help you improve your riding safty/skill . Thanks for listening… FYI my rides are AIH TC 2007/HD Roadking 2010 and an BMW R1200 RT love them all

    Tony,

how do you combat this? I think the answer is think first before acting! They have a car you’re on a motorcycle… Best thing to do is control your own emotions and even if you been cut off or given the finger for that matter, just write down their license plate and called into the police if necessary. If you really want put into danger, just write it off for the other driver being a total jerk and let it go. Now, I know this may be very hard to do, but it could really save your life or save you from serious injury!
