Motorcycle Transmission Problem
Big Dog Motorcycle Motorcycle Transmission Problem
Proper maintenance is the key to maintaining your motorcycle.
The Big Dog motorcycle k9 model cost about $34,000. But, whether you have a Big Dog or a Honda, you want to take care of it in order to avoid costly repairs and to ensure it’s maximum longevity.
In this video you see that this Big Dog motorcycle needs a complete transmission rebuilt. Yes, this is going to be very expensive to say nothing of the riding time lost. But, worst of all, the problem may never have occurred if the owner or the owner’s mechanic followed the manufacturer’s specifications for the type and the amount of transmission gear oil to use.

Take care of your baby so it doesn’t leave you by the side of the road.
When it comes to simple basic maintenance, always follow the manufacturer’s specifications. Don’t listen to friends or would-be mechanics as far as your motorcycle maintenance goes. Always, without exception, follow the manufacturer’s guidelines.
Also, don’t assume that the transmission gear oil that your buddy uses in his six speed motorcycle transmission is going to be the same for your bike. I also have a 2006 American Ironhorse Texas Chopper. This bike has an S&S 111 engine in it and a 6 Speed RoadMax transmission. But, unlike the Big Dog motorcycle, the specifications for the correct transmission fluid from Ironhorse states that the gear oil weight should be 80 – 90. Compare this to the big dog K-9 motorcycle with a suggested transmission fluid weight is 75 -140.
I know this sounds very simple, and sometimes people think they know better than the manufacture of their engine or their transmission, as to how to service it or maintain it. Personally, if you can’t find your owners manual, check with the manufacturer or the dealer before replacing fluids and filters.
