Kawasaki has unveiled a fascinating hydrogen-powered robot horse called Corleo. This concept vehicle represents a bold vision for future off-road personal mobility.
Here’s what we know about Kawasaki’s hydrogen-powered robot horse:
Name:Corleo (initially showcased as “Bex Corleo,” building on their previous Bex robot concept).
Purpose: It’s designed as a rideable, off-road personal mobility vehicle, aiming to combine the thrill of motorcycling with the agility and terrain-handling capabilities of a four-legged animal.
Hydrogen Power: Corleo is powered by a 150cc hydrogen combustion engine. This engine generates electricity that powers individual electric motors in each of its four legs. This means it’s not a fuel cell vehicle, but rather a hydrogen-fueled internal combustion engine generating power for an electric drivetrain. Hydrogen is stored in canisters at the rear of the robot.
Emissions: The primary emission from the hydrogen combustion engine is water vapor, making it a very clean energy solution.
Quadrupedal Movement: Corleo moves on four independent robotic legs, each equipped with rubber “hooves” that have a divided structure for superior grip across various terrains (rocky, grassy, rubble, snow). This allows it to navigate challenging landscapes that traditional wheeled vehicles struggle with.
