Crazy long front forks and handlebars on chopper motorcycles. Radical Chopper Motorcycles:
It seems there are people who always want to take a look to its extreme or radical possibility. Unfortunately, when doing this, especially on an auto or motorcycle handling and therefore safety are compromised.
Yes, it’s one thing to put on a long front end just for shows, but to actually operate a motorcycle with one of these radical extended front ends and extreme rake, is just an accident waiting to happen!
Usually on a manufactured custom chopper the rake in the front end would be somewhere in the high 30s to low 40s and the extended front ends would be anywhere from 6 to 10 inches. there are a large number of bikes shown in this video where I have no idea how they take any type of corner. Well, I guess I should restate that . . . how they type any type of corner or tight curve without walking the bike through it in first gear.
Below are a couple of photos of the American Ironhorse Texas Chopper and the Big Dog K-9 chopper. Both of these soft tail factory produced custom bikes not only look good but are engineered to take curves on par with the posted speed limits for autos.
So, in conclusion I like to say that motorcycling today is much more dangerous than it used to be. Now motorcyclist have to contend with distracted drivers, either talking or texting on their smart phones, or here in California, and a number of other states, motorcycle riders have to share the road with drivers that may be impaired because of the legalization of marijuana.Drunk drivers were bad enough, but now, based on statistics from other states that have legalized marijuana, motor vehicle accidents have increased in those states by approximately 5%!
Bearing these facts in mind, I think you’d have to be crazy to radically alter your motorcycle just for appearance’s sake.
