American Ironhorse Legend Model

American Ironhorse Legend Model

My favorite American IronHorse is the Texas Chopper.  In second place is this Legend model.  I have owned both, and just like the wider tire (280  up to 2008 when they went to 300) look!

I still remember when I rode my first Legend while still owning my Texas Chopper. I thought the handling on the Legend, (because of the  240 tire versus  the Texas Choppers wider 280)  handled more like a sportbike when compared to the Texas Chopper.

I really think the frame and the rake are the same on both bikes oh, but the difference being the size of the rear tire.

Yes, as I said before Oh, I personally like the wide tire look and unfortunately, when American IronHorse went to the 300 rear tire (on the Texas Chopper, also did a frame change and gas tank restyling) in 2008,  it turned out that that was the year they went bankrupt.  So, I don’t really think there’s anyone who knows accurately how many bikes were produced in 2008, but I would bet that if the economy wasn’t in  a huge decline in the economy, then, the restyling of the frame, gas tank and wider back tire would really have made the American Ironhorse Texas Chopper the best-selling of all the factory produced choppers.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

American IronHorse was an American motorcycle manufacturer based in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas area that was founded in 1995 by Tim Edmondson and Bill Rucker. At one time, AIH was the largest factory producer of custom motorcycles in the USA. Their 224,000-square-foot (20,800 m2) factory was located in Fort Worth, Texas, and housed the complete manufacturing process under a single roof. Although most (305) parts for the bikes were made in-house, such as the seats and wheels, all American IronHorse motorcycles were built with S&S engines and were assembled in-house. In Spring 2008, American Ironhorse ceased production on all motorcycles and most company assets were liquidated at auction.

Following Bill Rucker’s departure, AIH had a succession of CEOs and Tim Edmondson, President, the second largest shareholder and director of design sold his ownership in the company the following year. Buck Hendricson, who oversaw the company’s second banktuptcy, also guided the firm through its sale to Textron Inc, who subsequently liquidated the company in 2008.

The Company specialized in making motorcycles that had large displacement V-twin engines with large fins. One reviewer suggested the products are eye candy and beautiful, more powerful than comparable Harley Davidsons, but lacking in handling and amenities.
