Counter-steering on a motorcycle

Counter-steering on a motorcycle

Consequences of not understanding Counter-steering on a motorcycle

In short, turn the handlebars left to go right, and turn the handlebars right to go left. This principle holds true at speeds from about 15 or 20 mph and higher, and is true of all motorcycles.
Don’t believe it? Watch the video. And then go out to a safe area with no traffic, and try it yourself.

Practicing counter-steering so that it becomes second nature can SAVE YOUR LIFE! Understand and practice it! (more…)

Motorcycle Girls

Motorcycle Girls

EICMA is the largest international motorcycle show. When you have good looking motorcycles, naturally the young men who dominate the shows always like to see the hot models that the motorcycle manufacturers higher to attract attention  to their new bikes.

Yes, just like day and night, peanut butter and jelly, good looking babes and motorcycles just always go together! I’ve been around a long time, and been to a lot of Hot Rod and motorcycle shows and can’t remember one that didn’t have good looking gals.  Let’s face it, sex sells! Okay, let’s exclude the Viagra commercials on TV, I bet that well over 80% or so of the other commercials have some underlying  sex beauty component. (more…)

Motorcycles Custom, Radical

Motorcycles Custom, Radical

It’s always nice to look at some very cool looking motorcycles. Personally, there’s no disputing that these are some very custom radical  motorcycles, but, I wonder how many of them are truly practical to ride?

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

A custom motorcycle is a motorcycle with stylistic and/or structural changes to the ‘standard’ mass-produced machine offered by major manufacturers. Custom motorcycles might be unique, or built in limited quantities. While individual motorcyclists have altered the appearance of their machines since the very first days of motorcycling, the first individualized motorcycles specifically labeled ‘Custom’ appeared in the late 1950s, around the same time as the term was applied to custom cars. In the 1960s, custom artisans like Arlen Ness and Ben Hardy created new styles of custom bikes, the chopper. (more…)

American Ironhorse Motorcycle

American Ironhorse Motorcycle Ride

San Diego East County motorcycle ride,  Mount Laguna, Sunrise Highway.

Eric’s bike featured in this video, is a 2004 American Iron horse Texas Chopper with the 111 in.³ S&S engine. This motorcycle was given to him by his dad who was the original owner of the bike. Eric rode this bike across country from Florida to San Diego California.

American iron horse produced a number of different motorcycle models, their top-of-the-line flagship model was the Texas Chopper. In my personal opinion the Texas chopper and the Big Dtheog K-9 model are two of the best factory built chopper motorcycles ever! (more…)

San Diego CA Motorcycle Accident

Speeding motorcycle hurtles into driver during pursuit

San Diego Ca Motorcycle Accident

A motorcycle rear-ended into an innocent driver during a high-speed chase on Interstate 805 in the North Park area of town.

No biker wants to hear about a motorcycle crash. But, whether in a car or bike it’s really stupid to try to speed away and have the CHP case you on the highway. Personally, I think the stupidity level is doubled when you try to out run the cops on a motorcycle.  I think in the majority of these situations the motorcycle is usually ends up dead or seriously injured. But, what is really tragic in stories like this one, is that usually innocent motorist or pedestrians are often injured in these police chases. (more…)

American Ironhorse Texas Choppers

American Ironhorse Texas Choppers ride up to Mount Laguna and Julian CA.

My 2006 American Ironhorse Texas Chopper and Eric’s 2004 Texas Chopper. A November San Diego ride up to Julian California which is northeast of San Diego and about a mile high in elevation.

Julian is a very popular motorcycle riding destination in San Diego. If you ride east out of Julian down the banner grade you leave the tree covered hillsides for typical desert scenery. You can ride around granite mountain on S2 (the Great Southern Overland Stage Route) as you head out toward Ocotillo at the junction  of Highway 8. now, depending on your time you can just head back to San Diego on eight  as you climb up from the desert floor heading west. Motorcycle theft

Motorcycle theft

Motorcycle locks - motorcycle theftDid you know that San Diego County has more motorcycles sold in per capita every year than anywhere else in the USA?

I always thought Los Angeles County with its population almost 3 times that of San Diego County would have more motorcycle thefts than San Diego County. But, actually Los Angeles County has roughly the same number (as San Diego County ) of motorcycle stolen each year.

Police authorities speculate that the reason for the high motorcycle thefts in San Diego County is because of its proximity to the Mexican border. From downtown San Diego the border is just 20 minutes to the south.

On a recent news report, it was disclosed that Mexican drug cartels have targeted motorcycles as a quick and easy way to raise cash from selling the bike parts and the entire bikes themselves to interior areas within Mexico and Central America. (more…)
