Did you know that San Diego County has more motorcycles sold in per capita every year than anywhere else in the USA?
I always thought Los Angeles County with its population almost 3 times that of San Diego County would have more motorcycle thefts than San Diego County. But, actually Los Angeles County has roughly the same number (as San Diego County ) of motorcycle stolen each year.
Police authorities speculate that the reason for the high motorcycle thefts in San Diego County is because of its proximity to the Mexican border. From downtown San Diego the border is just 20 minutes to the south.
On a recent news report, it was disclosed that Mexican drug cartels have targeted motorcycles as a quick and easy way to raise cash from selling the bike parts and the entire bikes themselves to interior areas within Mexico and Central America.
The National Insurance Crime Bureau
publishes motorcycle theft statistics from reviewing your report for 2014 it shows that California has the most motorcycle thefts. Then, rounding out the top 10 were Florida South Carolina, Texas, South Carolina, North Carolina, New York, Indiana, Nevada, Georgia, and lastly Maryland.
The total number of stolen motorcycles in the United States in 2014 was 42,856! The biggest percentage change for motorcycle thefts in US cities, was in Las Vegas, Nevada. Motorcycle thefts increased between 2013 and 20 14 x 29% in Las Vegas!

Personally, I feel that if there is a determined group of thieves out to get your bike they’re going to do it! So, don’t think you’ll ever be able to protect your bike 100%. But, you can deter the dumb and impulsive thieves and also slow down the professional bike thieves that may just buy you enough time to save your baby from being ripped off.
