Radical Choppers

Radical Choppers – taking it too far!

For me the first thing that comes to mind when watching this video is that these bikers have taken it way too far as far as extended front ends go. Having a super long extended front end like this really changes the whole geometry of the motorcycle. I just have to believe that riding a motorcycle with such a long front end is really an accident waiting to happen. Plus, what about cornering and maneuverability?

Sure, I can appreciate bikers modifying their rights to suit their own individuality, but if they intend to ride these custom creations, I think safety has to factor into any modifications.

These motorcycles are just impractical and stupid. Make a bike uncomfortable and plan unsafe for the rider & anyone else around when they loses control. (more…)

Motorcycle Trike –

A sculptor by trade, Frogman Tim Cotterill brought his trike design to Blastolene, the same folks who built Jay’s Tank Car.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

Many three-wheelers which exist in the form of motorcycle-based machines are often called trikes and often have the front single wheel and mechanics similar to that of a motorcycle and the rear axle similar to that of a car. Often such vehicles are owner-constructed using a portion of a rear-engine, rear-drive Volkswagen Beetle in combination with a motorcycle front end. Other trikes include ATVs that are specially constructed for off road use. (more…)

Custom Chopper Motorcycle

Good Looking Custom Chopper Motorcycle

This is a great video for custom chopper motorcycle enthusiast. There is absolutely no narration, just a lot of good-looking custom chopper motorcycles!

Currently, here in the United States,, the chopper motorcycle look as stated in popularity and been replaced by the ‘bagger’ motorcycle. The bagger style motorcycle usually refers to a Harley or other large motorcycle that has saddlebags. Usually, a chopper motorcycle enthusiast wouldn’t be caught dead on one of these baggers! but, I bet the same could be true for a bagger motorcycle enthusiast  attitude toward the chopper motorcycle. Old School Chopper – Harley Chopper

Old School Choppers – From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

In the post-World War II United States, servicemen returning home from the war started removing all parts deemed too big, heavy, ugly, or not essential to the basic function of the motorcycle, such as fenders, turn indicators, and even front brakes. The large, spring-suspended saddles were also removed in order to sit as low as possible on the motorcycle’s frame. These machines were lightened to improve performance for dirt-track racing and mud racing. In California dry lake beds were used for long top speed runs. Motorcycles and automobiles ran at the same meets, and bobbers were an important part of the hotrod culture that developed in this era. (more…)

S&S Cycle Engine Assembly

S&S Cycle Engine Assembly

In this video, Wally Cahill asks S&S engine assembly supervisor Travis Egge how the S&S motorcycle performance engines are put together and end-of-line tested.

All S&S T-Series engines have gear drive cams. The cranks are three piece with the mainshafts forged on to the flywheels. There are only two joints where the crankpin is pressed into the flywheels. Check out this video series about our flywheels. https://youtu.be/o0M9yd4i70M S&S crankcases use Timken bearings on the sprocket shaft. The inner cam bearings are full complement straight roller bearings (no spacers) made by Torrington. The outer bearings are ball bearings because of the close tolerance required by the gear drive cams. (more…)

1946 Harley Davidson Knucklehead

1946 Harley Davidson Knucklehead

A legendary motorcycle. I love these machines! Kick starting a 1946 Harley Davidson Knucklehead.

The knucklehead is a retronym used by enthusiasts to refer to a Harley-Davidson motorcycle engine, so named because of the distinct shape of the rocker boxes. The engine is a two-cylinder, 45 degree, pushrod actuated overhead valve V-twin engine with two valves per cylinder.

S&S Motorcycle Old School Buildoff

S&S Motorcycle Engine Old School Buildoff

This video is the conclusion of the S&S Old School Shovelhead buidoff.

Personally, being into custom choppers for many many years, I think the S&S motorcycle engine is without a doubt, the best the twin motorcycle engine available! I’ve seen many custom-built choppers where one-of-a-kind rolling art work creations look magnificent but for some unknown reason the builder decided to put in some imported, dubious quality the twin engine. DIY Motorcycle Drive Belt Tension

Checking motorcycle drive belt tension deflection.

Regularly inspecting the drive belt and ensuring it has the correct amount of deflection is important to the life of the belt and also to the other drive train components on your motorcycle.

Most motorcycle final drive belts are designed to require minimal maintenance and adjustment but to also last a very long time. These belts typically last much longer than any chain drive and if properly cared for and maintained can last the lifetime of the motorcycle. (more…)
