The historic 1870s gold rush mining town of Julian is just about an hour east of San Diego at a high elevation 4,235 feet. It is one of the premier motorcycle ride destinations in the county and is unique in that it has four seasons.
Now more famous for tourists and apples and apple pies that oyou can enjoy all year round, Julian has become the center for visitors who wish to visit the mountains and take day trips to the nearby Anza Borrego Desert State Park .
At the start of the video you will see a park entrance that is just above Coleman Creek. Coleman, a Black rancher and experienced miner, discovered gold in the creek here while watering his horse during the winter of 1869-70. On making the discovery, he immediately began panning in the shallow waters which now bear his name.
