Changing a motorcycle oil is perhaps one of the most important maintenance items that you can do. Plus, was many motorcycle dealers charging over $100 to do a complete oil change, learning to do it yourself is really a tremendous money saver. Every make and model of motorcycle, has different oil types and oil change intervals. In this video I’m working on my past American Ironhorse Texas Chopper. The basic oil change information shown in my video, with minor changes, is applicable for most motorcycles.
Before you start your oil change I’d recommend checking your owner’s manual for the manufacturer’s recommendation on when to change the oil, the amount of oil to use and the recommended oil type and weight (more…)
This was the last year for the production of this great motorcycle! Because of the downturn in the U.S. economy, American Ironhorse declared bankruptcy around mid 2008.
I believe the following year, Big Dog motorcycles also went bankrupt. With the crap economy not many could afford these $35-$40,000 garage big-boy toys! (more…)
My favorite American IronHorse is the Texas Chopper. In second place is this Legend model. I have owned both, and just like the wider tire (280 up to 2008 when they went to 300) look!
I still remember when I rode my first Legend while still owning my Texas Chopper. I thought the handling on the Legend, (because of the 240 tire versus the Texas Choppers wider 280) handled more like a sportbike when compared to the Texas Chopper. (more…)
Keep in mind, this is a 2005 Texas Chopper! Just 125 10th anniversary Texas Chopper were made!
The one in the video has the S&S 124 ci engine, chrome frame, air suspension & an open (dry) primary, just to note a few of the differences.
Having owned a number of American Ironhorse Texas Choppers, I can say is the visual aspect of this motorcycle stunning, the ride and handling are quite good for a bike that has an overall length of over nine feet long!
The American Ironhorse Texas Chopper and and the Big Dog K-9 motorcycle are my two favorite factory custom motorcycles. Personally, I don’t think there’s a better factory custom chopper than the Texas Chopper or the Big Dog K-9!
The Texas chopper was the flagship of the American Ironhorse line of custom motorcycles. I’ve owned a number of them, starting with the 2004 and ending with a 2006. As I said before the Texas chopper and the Big Dog K-9 are my favorite motorcycles! Currently I’m riding a 2017 Big Dog K-9 with 117 in.³ S&S engine.
Both the Texas Chopper and the Big Dog K-9 are head turner’s where ever they go. The Texas Chopper came with three engine choices, all S&S engines starting at 111, 117 and the 124 in.³. The Big Dog K-9 came with the S&S 117 inch engine and when they went back into business the K-9 was upgraded to the S&S 124 inch engine.
Both these beautiful choppers are over 9 feet long, and to me, are powerful, sleek, works of rolling art. The truth is, you can go out and buy a new Harley for probably somewhere in the $30,000 too low $40,000 range and it would still not generate the looks of a well-maintained Texas chopper or Big Dog K-9 if they are parked next to your brand-new bike!
