2008 American Ironhorse Texas Chopper
2008 American Ironhorse Texas Chopper
This was the last year for the production of this great motorcycle! Because of the downturn in the U.S. economy, American Ironhorse declared bankruptcy around mid 2008.
I believe the following year, Big Dog motorcycles also went bankrupt. With the crap economy not many could afford these $35-$40,000 garage big-boy toys! Read more

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
American IronHorse was an American motorcycle manufacturer based in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas area that was founded in 1995 by Tim Edmondson and Bill Rucker. At one time, AIH was the largest factory producer of custom motorcycles in the USA. Their 224,000-square-foot (20,800 m2) factory was located in Fort Worth, Texas, and housed the complete manufacturing process under a single roof. Although most (305) parts for the bikes were made in-house, such as the seats and wheels, all American IronHorse motorcycles were built with S&S engines and were assembled in-house. In Spring 2008, American Ironhorse ceased production on all motorcycles and most company assets were liquidated at auction.
Big Dog Motorcycles
The company was founded in 1995 by Sheldon Coleman Jr., whose father was Sheldon Coleman Sr., who had been president of Coleman Company. In 1994, Coleman started working in his garage to modify Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Big Dog produced a single motorcycle in its first year, affectionately known as “Old Smokey”; its oversized fenders and classic cruiser style would point the way for all of the company’s later products. When the company was started, it initially produced its motorcycles largely from Harley-Davidson parts. By 1996, Big Dog had sold 100 motorcycles. By 1997, the company had reached $2 million in sales, and in 2000, the company had expanded so much that a move to a new, 110,000-square-foot (10,000 m2) factory and world headquarters (since expanded to 175,000 square feet) was required. The company reached the peak of its success in 2005 at which it had made over 5,000 motorcycles, employed over 300 people, and brought in a revenue of over $120 million.According to The Dallas Morning News, that year, it and American IronHorse were “the two largest builders of manufactured exotics”. In 2006, Big Dog manufactured its 20,000th motorcycle. In 2007, it laid off people for the initial time upon not selling the expected number of motorcycles.
In April 2011, Big Dog shut down. In October 2013, Intrust Bank filed for foreclosure on Big Dog property.
*Personal Note — Big Dog Motorcycles did come back from bankruptcy, although much much smaller then their original operation , I understand that they are still producing a limited number of there fine bikes. Here is a link to their website: Big Dog Motorcycles. https://bigdogisback.com/

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
A chopper is a type of custom motorcycle which emerged in California in the late 1950s. The chopper is perhaps the most extreme of all custom styles, often using radically modified steering angles and lengthened forks for a stretched-out appearance. They can be built from an original motorcycle which is modified (“chopped”) or built from scratch. Some of the characteristic features of choppers are long front ends with extended forks often coupled with an increased rake angle, hardtail frames (frames without rear suspension), very tall “ape hanger” or very short “drag” handlebars, lengthened or stretched frames, and larger than stock front wheels. The “sissy bar”, a set of tubes that connect the rear fender with the frame, and which are often extended several feet high, is a signature feature on many choppers. Read more

This is the first use of my new 360° VR camera to video a motorcycle ride. the camera is a Insta360 One, that records in 4K resolution. For best possible viewing results, change the resolution of this video up to 4K and full-screen, if your device can handle it without buffering. If you have a problem, just lower the resolution until it plays back correctly.
Riding up to Mount Laguna and Julian California is the most popular San Diego motorcycle ride. If you look closely at the video when we’re riding into Julian you’ll see a large amount of motorcycles parked on both sides of the main street. Read more

For best viewing, change the settings to the highest HD quality and be sure to go full screen …
There were three chopper motorcycle riders from Orange County, and for chopper motorcycle riders from San Diego. Sure, seven motorcycle riders are pretty small group, but what made our group unique, is the fact that all the bikes were exceptionally good-looking, high-powered choppers.
Chopper motorcycles have been out-of-favor for a number of years. Yes at many motorcycle get-together, I’d say there are at least 20 to 30 baggars for every one chopper motorcycle. There is no doubt, for long rides, it is sure convenient to have those large saddlebags, multi-speaker stereo systems, large windshields, GPS, gas gauge and a huge gas tank. Read more

San Diego Chopper Motorcycle GoPro Ride
Riding my 2006 American Ironhorse Texas Chopper on a really hot day in San Diego California.
The camera I am using to film this video is a GoPro Hero 4 Black and I’m shooting at 1080, 60 frames per second super wide angle mode. The camera, is mounted on the right side of my helmet.
If you’re using your GoPro camera to film your motorcycle rides, as long as it’s mounted on your body or your helmet you really don’t need a stabilizer to get good footage. But if you decide to mount the camera directly on the bike, the handlebars or the frame, it really pays to use a three axis gimbal to get your best shots. Read more

Eric’s 2004 American Ironhorse Texas Chopper motorcycle. when it comes to factory manufactured chopper motorcycles, it’s my humble opinion that the American Ironhorse Texas Chopper and the Big Dog K-9 are two of the classic and best built chopper’s!
We did this video in front of San Diego Harley Davison on Marina Boulevard here in San Diego. many other motorcycle riders and most of the general public when looking at the Texas Chopper believe that it is a rigid frame model because of the low seat position and no visible rear shock absorbers.
