Skully Helmets is putting a heads-up display, rear-view camera, and GPS into a motorcycle helmet that it unveiled at DemoFall 2013.
As a heads up display (HUD) motorcycle helmet, it will give riders a better sense of their environment by integrating a 180 degree rear view camera so there are no longer blind spots.
Other information will be available including GPS mapping and weather. An SDK is available as apps are planned to be built for Skully Helmets. Because the helmet will be connected to one’s smartphone, controlling music, sending texts and making calls will be possible via voice control.
This all sounds very interesting, but with the recent controversy in California with a car driver wearing Google glasses, I don’t believe under current California law that this type of motorcycle helmet would be legal. it’s not that I don’t think that this is a great idea, I just think that driving laws will have to be updated to catch up with new technology. Also, perhaps technology like this should be approved on a probationary period, perhaps a year or two, and then reevaluated to be sure that it does not create more distractions for drivers than the benefits it really provides.
Sounds like a great motorcycle helmet, where can I get me one?
Would really like to see this helmet’s display, sounds like the next big motorcycle thing!
