How To Adjust Primary Chain Tensioner
DIY – Adjust Primary Chain Tensioner
Every time you change your primary case oil you should check the primary chain tension. This is a relatively simple and basic motorcycle maintenance procedure that is detailed in this video by Curtis of Wild Steed Worx in Valley Ctr., California.
If your primary chain tension is too tight you could cause damage to your engine and transmission bearings. if the primary chain is to lose it can cause problems getting in and out of neutral as well as loud clunking sounds.

Because no special tools are necessary to check your primary chain tension, this is one of the easier, though very important, motorcycle maintenance procedures that you can do on your own.
Before starting this maintenance procedure, be sure that your bike is properly secured on the left and the back wheel is able to rotate freely. Drain your primary case oil and remove the primary case cover and seal. Next, you should remove your spark plugs and put the bite into sixth gear.
Before initiating any motorcycle maintenance on your own, always be sure to check your motorcycles owners manual for the proper procedure for your particular model.
As the majority of my readers already know, my two favorite factory built chopper’s are the Big Dog K-9 and the American Ironhorse Texas Chopper. When these bikes were new, they sold in the range of $35,000! So, even though currently the chopper style motorcycle is out of favor, if you own one of these expensive factory built chopper’s, it definitely pays to properly maintain them not only to enjoy trouble free rides but to protect your investment.
If you’re interested in getting one of these high powered factory built chopper’s, I currently have two 2006 and one 2007 Big Dog k9’s for sale. To get further information about these bikes, click here: Big Dog k9 motorcycles for sale
