San Diego California Motorcycle Riding

San Diego California Motorcycle Riding

Riding my 2006 American iron horse Texas chopper in the East County of San Diego. The video was produced in Blossom Valley here in San Diego.

I have since sold this bike to an experienced motorcycle rider up in Washington State. I was going to be replacing it with a Big Dog K9 motorcycle. But, I ended up getting another American Ironhorse Texas Chopper .  . The same year as this blue one, a 2006. It was all black ,but I wanted it so I could have my own custom paint job applied.

Yes, I liked the ride and handling of the 2006 Texas chopper so much,  that I ended up getting the exact same model as a replacement. Below are some photos of my current 2006 Texas Chopper and had it custom painted.

It was also in 2008 that they changed the design of their flagship model motorcycle the Texas Chopper. I’ve been unable to find out an approximation of how many 2008 Texas Choppers they produced before they went out of business. But, I can say that trying to find one in decent condition is almost impossible.

Because of this, I have a distinct feeling that not many were made before their shutdown. The big difference in styling that came out with the 2008 Texas Chopper was it had a differently designed gas tank, slightly larger than their prior Texas Choppers. But, probably the most notable feature of the changes made to the 2008 Texas Chopper was that they went to a single down tube frame. Plus, they also went from a 280 rear tire to a 300 rear tire. It’s also my understanding that they just offered the 2008 motorcycle with the 111 S&S engine. On all prior Texas choppers they had three S&S motorcycle engine options. These options were the one 111 in.³, 117 in.³ and at that time, their largest V twin-engine the 124 in.³.

I’ve been lucky enough to own bikes with each one of these engines. Personally, I think the 111 is a fine engine and I’ve had no complaints with. But, I’ve also had one with a 117 and I thought this was the ideal powerplant for the Texas Chopper.

Lastly, I owned a Texas Chopper with a 124 in.³ S&S engine. For riding around downtown San Diego, I personally thought this was way too much power for this chopper!
