Thunder Mountain Custom Motorcycle
Thunder Mountain Custom Motorcycle in San Diego California.
Thunder Mountain Custom Cycles, Inc., was (now out of business) located in Fort Collins, Colorado. Their choppers were basically Harley motorcycles that they highly modified.
Though the basic Harley engine, frame and drivetrain are utilized. The rear swinging arm was modified to accept a wide tire and the front ends were changed to provide additional length and rake over the standard. Plus, all the paint jobs were custom.
It is said that the sales network consisted of a number of independent Harley-Davidson motorcycle dealers. Though I’m not sure how accurate all the above information is there is one fact that is certain and that is that the California air quality control board levied a fine of $167,000 against Thunder Mountain Motorcycles (for their 2007 models) and a couple of their California dealers for not filing the proper paperwork in one model year. It’s my understanding the motorcycles did meet the California air quality standards but the paperwork was not properly submitted. Thunder Mountain Custom Cycles paid the fine and also paid the fines for the California dealers.
Perhaps due to our major economic downturn, like many other custom motorcycle manufacturers, I’m thinking about American Ironhorse, and Big Dog, Thunder Mountain Custom Cycles also went out of business in 2009.
Because of their good looks, dependability and relatively easy service … because of their reliance on basic Harley components, these custom motorcycles are still highly desired.

did the frame crack yet?
Cool. 🙂
Nice bike, wish I have the money to buy one like it. The sound is just out of this world!
I LOVE this bike
I have the Firestone 110, in 08,. Been a nice ride,. Set apart from the factory models on the floor,. Ya want a. Bike that looks n rides fast when your ready,. Can see it in the crowded lot,. It has all performance options n reliability of stockers,. Plus that one of a kind appeal,. We’re all special somehow, n these choppers are too,. Only problem I have had is timing chain split at 2800 miles, a 45.00 part, the size of an ankle bracelet, on a high performance motor,. It was replaced with gear drive n matching cams, etc, result has been bulletproof, with over 11000 miles n still climbing, also have had several other HDs in the garage,. Have had new Indian Chief vintage n traded that for Indians new Roadmaster,. Which handles n rides sweet,. All weather equipped,. So guess I save the Firestone for leisure n event rides,,. Best of both worlds
I’m desperate to find the two little chrome plugs that fill the openings when the after market seat two up seat is removed . This seat was about $1200 , but incredible as when it slid in it remained about an inch off of the fender. ANY LEADS APPRECIATED !!!
