How To Install A Motorcycle Piston Cylinder

This video is on how to install pistons and cylinders using this trick tip method for Harley Davidson v-twin Evolution engine. Similar to procedures are used on S&S TP Ulitma Delkron Jims Revtech and many other aftermarket EVO cases. This demonstration was filmed in the lab at Western Iowa Tech Community College Motorcycle and Powersports Technology Program

This is how Harley manuals call out the piston installation with one BIG execption. Harley does NOT want oil / lube on the rings at all. The factory and factory trained techs install rings DRY with only the piston skirt lightly oiled. The reason, per Harley, is that an oiled ring will “Coke” in the ring land behind the ring at start up. This can cause the new rings to break. I can tell you from personal experience that Harley is correct, not these guys. Just my .02 worth.
