American Ironhorse Texas Chopper Last Ride
American Ironhorse Texas Chopper Sold
Sold my 2006 American Ironhorse Texas Chopper last week. This is a video of the last ride of my Texas Chopper away from my home with it’s new owner.
I’ve been riding motorcycles for about 50 years and this was the best motorcycle I ever owned!
American Ironhorse Texas Chopper
Yes, I owned this motorcycle for 3 1/2 years, it was originally back and I had it custom painted. As a matter of fact, it’s the only motorcycle that I’ve owned, and I’ve owned many, that I had custom painted. It was a Western motif with the horses head on either side of the tank and all of the pieces, were tied together with with barb wire running through each piece.
I originally purchased this bike from the original owner who was living up in Los Angeles. When I purchased it, it wasn’t running correctly, seemed to have a carburetor problem. After carefully checking out the engine, I determined it was worth taking a chance on the purchase because I was pretty certain it was just a carburetor problem.
I rode his bike home from Los Angeles, and when I had the bike looked at, sure enough, it turned out that the carburetor needed a cleaning and some minor adjustments and then the bike was running fine.
The longest ride that I had on this bike, was last year a ride from San Diego out to Borrego Springs, up to Julian California, down to Highway eight, and back to San Diego. This was about a 200 mile ride round trip. I found this with my first 360° camera, and if you’d like to see that ride here is a link: best San Diego motorcycle rides.
Last year I noticed a fantastic looking 2017 Big Dog K-9 that had a Big Dog Pitbull tank. This k9 was for sale by a prior Big Dog motorcycle technician. This was his personal bike that he put together. After looking at the photos and talking to the owner a number of times, I said that I would ride out the Wichita in a couple of days and bring cash with me for the purchase if the bike checked out and was everything the owner said it was.
After going through five states, and taking two days, I arrived in Wichita, called the owner and made arrangements to see the bike that evening. After checking out the bike, reviewing the paperwork, and naturally riding the bike, I purchased it and the following morning I had it on a trailer heading back toward an overnight stop in Albuquerque, and then back home to San Diego.
Here in California, besides one totally custom bike, all the other bikes that I’ve owned, have either been American Ironhorse Texas Choppers or Big Dog K9 motorcycles. It’s just that I think these are the two best factory built custom choppers ever!
Sure, I would have liked to keep both bikes, it was just too much money tied up in motorcycles. The new owner of the Texas chopper is just about 45 miles from me so I’m sure I’ll see my Texas Chopper on the road again.
